Rory McIlroy Trolled by Golf Fans After US Open Collapse, Bryson DeChambeau Win
It was a frustrating end to the day for Rory McIlroy at U.S. Open on Sunday as he finished just shy of a win behind Bryson DeChambeau.
After carding a one-under-par on Sunday, McIlroy finished the weekend at five-under-par, a stroke behind DeChambeau.
The most frustrating moment of the day came at the 17th hole when McIlroy was tied with DeChambeau. McIlroy had a seemingly easy putt ahead of him but missed just wide to fall behind DeChambeau, ultimately costing him a chance at the win.
After McIlroy came up short, fans trolled the veteran golfer for recording a bogey on three of the final four holes.
After failing to win on Sunday, McIlroy has now had six consecutive top-10 finishes without a win at the U.S. Open, just one away from tying the record for the most consecutive top-10 finishes without a win.
It has also been 10 years since his last win at a major—his last two wins coming in 2014 at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. He will have one more chance to win a major this year as he participates in the Open in July, and he'll be hoping to have better luck then.
