Packers' Kenny Clark Says Contract Talks Are 'Ongoing'; Pro Bowler Will Be FA in 2025

Timothy RappJun 11, 2024

Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season, but confirmed on Tuesday that extension talks are underway and that he wants to remain with the organization.

"There's been talks," he told reporters. "It's still ongoing, but they're talking. That's the only thing I've got on that. ... I love it here. I love my teammates. I love the organization. Hopefully everything will work out."

Clark, who is on the tail end of a four-year, $70 million deal with Green Bay, is a three-time Pro Bowler and one of the top interior defensive lineman in football. He registered a career-high 7.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits last season and tied a career-high with nine tackles for loss, so he's shown little signs of slowing down.

The 28-year-old was a big part of the team's trip to the postseason last year, alongside Jordan Love's fantastic run in the latter part of the season.

The veteran defensive tackle will be adjusting to a new system, however, as the Packers will be going from a 3-4 base defense to the 4-3 under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. But Clark is ready for the change.

"It's one of things where all my career I've been kind of been playing this way, but in more of a controlled way," he told reporters in late May. "Now this is giving us a chance to shut all that other stuff off... just use your ability, go up the field and be disruptive. I just think with my get-off and how I am, I think it's going to suit me well."

It will be interesting to see how Clark and his teammates fare in the new scheme. Hopes are high for the Packers in 2024 and beyond, though it remains to be seen how long Clark will remain with the organization.
