Report: Utah NHL Team Asked 2024 Draft Prospects for Uber Rating During Interviews

Joseph ZuckerJun 8, 2024

At least one NHL team is willing to ask the hard questions ahead of the 2024 entry draft.

Arpon Basu of The Athletic reported that the unnamed Utah NHL franchise had been asking prospects for their Uber passenger rating during interviews at the scouting combine.

Basu's report came after defenseman Zayne Parekh told reporters Saturday an unnamed franchise had asked him for his Snapchat score and his Uber rating. Thankfully, he has a 4.92 rating on the ridesharing service.

It sounds as though the queries have been made to others in the draft class.

This is par for the course leading up to any draft. Particularly in the NFL and NBA, there are countless examples of questions that at best provide some levity while yielding insight. At worst, front office personnel cross a clear line.

A player's Uber rating can be tangentially read as a measure for how they treat others but is clearly an imperfect metric in that regard. A Snapscore seemingly provides even less in terms of actually getting to know a prospect.

Parekh is a lock for the first round after totaling 96 points (33 goals and 63 assists) for the OHL's Saginaw Spirit this season. Bleacher Report's Lyle Richardson had him going sixth overall in his most recent mock draft.

Should the 18-year-old tumble down the board on June 28, fans can only draw one conclusion: His Snapscore must be exceptionally bad.
