Colts' Anthony Richardson Dealing with Shoulder Soreness amid Injury Rehab, HC Says

Paul KasabianJun 6, 2024

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, who is rehabbing from a season-ending Grade 3 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, is experiencing soreness in that shoulder as he goes through rehab.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen revealed the news to reporters but noted that Richardson could still play if needed, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Colts selected Richardson, a former Florida star, with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He flashed his potential last year but unfortunately played just four games before his season prematurely ended.

The 22-year-old completed 59.5 percent of his pass attempts for 577 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He added 136 rushing yards and four scores on the ground.

At his best, he's an electric playmaker capable of becoming a franchise quarterback and leading the Colts back to becoming a perennial playoff team. Obviously, his health is of paramount importance to the organization, but thankfully, there's more good news at this point.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the following optimistic note on the May 22 edition on NFL Live.

"They feel like he's right where he should be today. They don't have to rush him. They know they have Joe Flacco in reserve, but he is on track right now to be ready for the start of the season.

"... The Colts know they have a huge talent on their hands. They're going to be very careful with him knowing his injury history, knowing what he's coming off of last season but right now I think he's right where they want him to be."

So despite the reported shoulder soreness, things are still looking up for Richardson and the Colts, who start the season on Sept. 8 versus the AFC South champion Houston Texans.
