College Baseball Regional 2024: Dates, Schedule, Bracket and Players to Watch

Joe TanseyMay 30, 2024

The 2024 NCAA baseball tournament is littered with top prospects for the MLB draft.

A majority of the top picks in this year's draft are expected to come from the collegiate ranks. Most of the top players will be on display during the regional round.

The regional round begins Friday with four teams at 16 sites playing for one spot each in the super regional round.

The full NCAA baseball tournament schedule can be found here on NCAA.com.

Players to Watch

Charlie Condon, OF, Georgia

Charlie Condon leads the NCAA with a .443 batting average and 35 home runs.

The Georgia player is currently the No. 2 overall pick in the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter.

The expectation is for Condon to go in the top two to one of the Cleveland Guardians or Cincinnati Reds.

Condon is expected to put on a show during regional weekend inside his home ballpark, which is known to create a ton of offense in warmer weather.

Georgia is the No. 7 overall seed, so if it advances to the super regional round, Condon and his teammates will have an additional weekend to put up eye-popping numbers in Athens.

The sophomore outfielder could be involved in one of the highest-scoring games of the weekend if UGA matches up with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech ranks 20th in batting average and the two schools have 230 home runs between them this season.

Travis Bazzana, 2B, Oregon State

Bazzana is currently Reuter's No. 1 overall pick to Cleveland.

The Oregon State second baseman ranks fourth in the country in batting average and has the eighth-most home runs with 28.

Bazzana and the Beavers will be at home for the regional round. They start off the tournament against the Tulane Green Wave on Friday night.

The best infield product in the draft class built a strong case to be the best pure hitter in the draft class. He is in competition with Condon and Florida's Jac Caglianone for that title.

Bazzana should put on a show in the Corvallis regional with three mid-major sides in Oregon State's part of the bracket.

The real test for the Beavers would come in the super regional round against the second-seeded Kentucky Wildcats.

Chase Burns, RHP, Wake Forest

Chase Burns will likely be the first pure pitcher chosen in the MLB draft.

Caglianone pitches in addition to playing first base, but he will be drafted because of his prowess at the plate.

Burns leads the nation with 184 strikeouts. He holds a 30-strikeout advantage over Arkansas' Hagen Smith in second place.

Reuter slotted Burns into the No. 6 pick in his latest mock draft, but he could go higher depending on if the teams in the top five want an impact arm instead of a promising bat.

Burns should pitch the regional opener for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons against the VCU Rams on Friday.

He is one of the few top prospects who will not be at home during regional weekend. Wake was drawn with the East Carolina Pirates, the No. 16 national seed.

Burns will likely make just one appearance during regional weekend unless Wake plays on Monday in an elimination game and employs the all-hands-on-deck pitching strategy.
