Chiefs Staffer: Patrick Mahomes Like Tom Brady, Never Causes Division in Locker Room

Paul KasabianMay 28, 2024

A veteran Kansas City Chiefs staffer praised quarterback Patrick Mahomes' ability to say "all the right things" in public and avoid causing any locker room friction, citing seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady's ability to do the same.

"Pat's similar to [Tom] Brady in that way," the staffer told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. "He's just got a knack for saying all the right things, and things that never cause any division in the locker room."

The staffer made those remarks amid Mahomes' comments in response to teammate and kicker Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech to Benedictine College.

When asked about Butker's speech Wednesday, Mahomes told reporters (in part): "I've known him for seven years. I judge him by the character he shows every day and that's a good person. ... We're not always going to agree. He said certain things I don't agree with."

Mahomes has done quite well for himself as the Chiefs' QB1 since 2018, winning three Super Bowls, three Super Bowl MVP awards and two NFL MVP awards during that span.

At age 28, Mahomes is certainly on a GOAT trajectory if he keeps his up. With plenty of years remaining in his career, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him meet or exceed Brady's Super Bowl amount. He's clearly making all the right moves on the field and has received praise for his poise off it.

Mahomes and the Chiefs start their 2024 campaign on Sept. 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
