Angel Reese Praised by WNBA Fans After Sky's Upset Win vs. Breanna Stewart, Liberty

Doric SamMay 23, 2024

Prior to Thursday's game against the Chicago Sky, New York Liberty star forwards Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones had high praise for rookie forward Angel Reese, telling Jared Schwartz of the New York Post that she's "a workhorse" and "an energizer bunny."

The star duo got to experience that first-hand throughout Thursday's matchup, as Reese helped lead the Sky to a 90-81 upset win over the Liberty, handing New York its first loss of the season.

Reese posted 13 points and nine rebounds and made some clutch plays in the fourth quarter. She also played outstanding defense throughout the game to help contribute to Chicago's impressive win. The normally efficient Stewart didn't get going until the fourth quarter, finishing with 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Jones was limited to season-lows of eight points and four rebounds.

In addition to Reese's strong night, the Sky had four other players score in double figures. Marina Maybrey led the way with 21 points and seven assists. Michaela Onyenwere added 13 points and Dana Evans and Chennedy Carter chipped in 12 points apiece.

Fans on social media were impressed with Reese's performance, as she appears to have quickly acclimated to the professional level:

It will take some time for Reese to develop on the offensive end, but she's already proven to be a skilled defender. She didn't back down from facing a pair of MVPs in Stewart and Jones, so she has an attitude well beyond her years.

Chicago fans will surely enjoy watching Reese's game continue to grow. She will look to keep the momentum going when the Sky return to action on Saturday against the Connecticut Sun.
