Daniel Jones: 'I Wasn't Fired Up' About Possibility of Giants Drafting a QB

Daniel Jones wasn't overly worried about the New York Giants potentially selecting a quarterback early in the 2024 NFL draft.

Jones told reporters on Thursday at he "wasn't fired up about it" and added that he was focused on getting healthy as he recovers from a torn ACL that ended his 2023 campaign.

The Giants ultimately decided to spend the No. 6 overall pick on a receiver instead of pursuing a quarterback, selecting LSU's Malik Nabers.

On the day of the draft, SNY's Connor Hughes revealed that the Giants were "actively trying to move up for a quarterback" although he added that he was "not sure they can pull it off."

Hughes also reported that New York "aggressively tried to trade up" to the No. 3 overall pick and select North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye, who was eventually picked by the New England Patriots.

Jones' hefty contract may have factored into the Giants' decision to stick with him as their starter moving forward, as he's in the midst of a four-year extension worth $160 million that he signed in March 2023 (via Spotrac).

The 26-year-old struggled to maintain his consistency throughout his injury-shortened 2023 season, finishing with a 1-5 record as a starter while racking up 909 passing yards and just two touchdowns compared to six interceptions.

With his comments on Thursday, Jones seems to be solely focused on his injury recovery ahead of the 2024 season. He appears to be making progress in his rehab, participating in 7-on-7 drills during practice on Monday (via Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports).

The addition of Nabers out wide should help make Jones' life easier in the pocket, as the 20-year-old racked up 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns during a stellar junior campaign at LSU.
