Saturday Recaps

No. 1 Notre Dame 16, No. 8 Georgetown 11

Notre Dame had no intention of letting Georgetown end its quest for a second consecutive National Championship.

The Fighting Irish took an 8-2 lead at halftime and entered the fourth quarter with a 12-4 lead. The Hoyas did put up a fight in the final quarter but it was not enough to avoid the inevitable.

Chris Kavanagh led Notre Dame with five goals, Pat Kavanagh scored three, Devon McLane had two while Eric Dobson, Jordan Faison, Marco Napolitano, Fulton Bayman, Reilly Gray and Will Lynch had the others.

Graham Bundy Jr. led the Hoyas with five goals.

No. 7 Maryland 14, No. 2 Duke 11

The Duke Blue Devils got the start it needed.

The No. 2 team took a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and led 8-5 at the half. Maryland pulled slightly closer before the fourth quarter and erupted for seven goals in the final frame to pull off the biggest upset of the tournament thus far.

Daniel Maltz paced the Terrapins attack with four goals, while Ryan Siracusa added three and Jack Koras, Braden Erksa and Luke Wierman each had two. Dyson Williams led Duke with six goals while standout Brennan O'Neill had three.

Sunday Recaps

No. 5 Denver 10, No. 4 Syracuse 8

A third quarter outburst carried the Denver Pioneers to a key victory over Syracuse.

The two sides entered halftime with Denver leading 4-3. However, the Pioneers erupted for six goals in the second quarter and entered the final quarter with a 10-5 lead. The Orange would score three in a comeback attempt, but alas it was not enough to flip the score.

Michael Lampert, J.J. Sillstrop, Cody Malawsky and Ty Hussey scored two goals each for Denver while Joshua Carlson and Mic Kelly contributed the other two tallies. Michael Leo led the Orange with three goals.

No. 6 Virginia 11, No. 3 John's Hopkins 10 (OT)

The best game of the weekend was the last one.

John's Hopkins took a 4-0 lead to start and led 7-5 at the half. The Blue Jays even held a 10-9 lead in the fourth quarter. However, a controversial goal for the Cavaliers passed the replay inspection and sent the game to overtime.

Each team had a chance to score in overtime, but it was Connor Shellenberger who played the hero role for Virginia, sending the team to Philadelphia.

Shellenberger, McCabe Millon and Jack Boyden each had three goals for Virginia while Ryan Colsey and Payton Cormier scored the others. Russell Melendez led the Blue Jays with four goals.
