Drew Brees, who spent the year after his NFL retirement working as an NBC analyst, says Tom Brady was right to take a year off between his NFL career and his new broadcasting position with Fox Sports.

"I think he did it right by taking a year off," Brees told Dan Patrick on Friday's episode of the Dan Patrick Show. "Sometimes I wish I would've done that. I jumped right into the booth."

Brady will begin his role as Fox's lead game analyst with the kickoff of the 2024 NFL season.

The new role will begin a year and a half after Brady announced his final retirement from the league in February 2023.

Brees now believes Brady's 23 seasons of NFL experience, as well as his familiarity with broadcasting, will qualify him to succeed in the booth.

"I tell you what. I loved broadcasting games," Brees told Patrick. "The preparation was very much like playing a game, and I think he and I are wired in a lot of the same ways. I don't think that's ever gonna leave us. You just kind of watch the game different, you see the game different and then you can communicate the game different.

"I think he's going to do a great job. I think he's spent a lot of that time studying some of the greats in the business, and we'll see, but obviously he has the wealth of knowledge and experience to share."

Brees isn't the first person to offer Brady insight into the world of broadcasting. The six-time Super Bowl champion recently reached out to ask former Fox Sports lead game analyst Greg Olsen for career advice, per USA Today.
