Bronny James Rumors: Scouts Concerned LeBron's Son 'Undersized for an Off-Ball Guard'

Andrew PetersMay 16, 2024

Bronny James impressed with a few aspects of his game Wednesday at the NBA draft combine, but his size remains a concern among scouts, per ESPN's Jeremy Woo:

"While evaluators generally view Bronny as a second-round talent at best, the immediate feedback from scouts was better today. He showcased his willingness to share the ball, play a role and knock down shots. Still, most of the concerns have always been the same: He's undersized for an off-ball guard in the NBA, particularly on the defensive end, and struggles to create for himself. Still, Wednesday was a much better look for James as he attempts to strengthen his case for draftability in June."

James had 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting during a scrimmage Wednesday, showing major improvement from a scrimmage Tuesday when he went 2-of-8 from the field and 0-of-4 from deep.

While James was listed at 6'4" on USC's roster during his freshman year, he measured in at 6'1" at the combine.

Still, he had an impressive showing throughout the event, displaying a solid shooting touch and showcasing his athleticism. In a three-point shooting drill, James hit 19 of 25 shots, which was the second most of the day. He also notched a 40.5-inch vertical.

In his sole season at USC, James recorded 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He was sidelined for around a month at the beginning of the campaign while recovering from cardiac arrest, which he suffered last summer.

James showed flashes of potential during his time with the Trojans but never managed to find much of a groove while coming off the bench. While his college career wasn't as impressive as those of many prospects in this year's draft class, he's hoping to improve his stock throughout the combine, which ends Sunday.
