WWE News: Future Plans for Feud Between John Laurinaitis and CM Punk Revealed
Cm Punk may be defending his WWE Championship against Dolph Ziggler at the Royal Rumble, but his No. 1 feud at the moment isn’t with “The Showoff.”
It’s with interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis, who will be the special guest referee of that title match between Ziggler and Punk.
In case you haven’t been able to tell, the WWE has been putting a lot of effort into the storyline between Punk and Laurinaitis over the past couple of months, and apparently, there are plans for that to continue.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
From WrestleZone.com:
"WZ has learned that a match between CM Punk vs. John Laurinaitis is in the future plans of WWE creative.
After speaking with sources it seems that match is expected to happen sometime in February. Laurinaitis being the special guest referee in Punk's WWE title defense at the Royal Rumble is likely to be a significant point in the conflict between the two that leads to a match.
There are some feel that Laurinaitis role as a heel is going so well in addition to the weekly build of conflict with CM Punk is enough to consider it for a pay-per-view match at Elimination Chamber. However, others think that on the road to WrestleMania, CM Punk should not be working a match on PPV someone who is not a wrestler on the WWE roster.
Whenever the match between the two, some sort of stipulation for the winner and loser has been discussed to increase the importance of the match.
"
This gels with a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via WrestleNewz.com) that “WWE is building to CM Punk hitting John Laurinaitis, and talking that it will be similar to how big it was when Steve Austin finally hit Vince McMahon with the Stunner during the Attitude era.”
While WWE officials should realize that nothing will ever come close to the rivalry between Mr. McMahon and “Stone Cold,” I really have no problem with the feud between Laurinaitis and Punk or with seeing those two in a match down the road.
My only request is that the WWE does not do what it did with Jerry Lawler and put someone who is no longer a full-time wrestler (or in Laurinaitis’ case, even an active one) in a high-profile match on pay-per-view.
Keeping it on TV is fine because it will add to the ongoing conflict between Punk and Laurinaitis, which I’ve actually found to be pretty entertaining so far. But that’s good enough.
While having some focus on the beef between one of the top stars on Raw and its top authority figure is OK, the real focus should be on Punk’s feud with Ziggler or whoever else is gunning after his WWE Championship.
