The University of Michigan's spring commencement doubled as a display of the Wolverines' excellence on the gridiron.
1991 Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard was on hand Saturday as quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Blake Corum capped off their time in Ann Arbor.
Author Brad Meltzer, a graduate of the school, introduced Howard, McCarthy and Corum on the stage at the 2:50:00 mark of the commencement.
Howard remains a sainted figure within the Michigan program. His punt return touchdown against Ohio State is one of the most iconic moments the rivalry, both for what it represented in the game and as the moment the "Heisman Pose" was born.
McCarthy and Corum each earned a special place in Wolverines lore with their national championship triumph.
Corum will be remembered fondly because he returned for his senior campaign with a title firmly in mind. McCarthy, meanwhile, was called the greatest QB in Michigan history, an assessment with which Tom Brady agreed.
Both stars have waved Ann Arbor goodbye in pursuit of their NFL dreams. The Minnesota Vikings selected McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft in the hope he can be the long-term successor to Kirk Cousins. The Los Angeles Rams used a third-round pick on Corum and he'll back up Kyren Williams as a rookie.
