NFL Rumors: Scouts Say Ravens Landed 'Steal' with Nate Wiggins, 'Won' 2024 NFL Draft

Paul KasabianMay 4, 2024

Some NFL scouts have cited the Baltimore Ravens as a winner in this year's NFL draft in part because of the team's first-round selection, Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler relayed that information on SportsCenter on Saturday:

"There's a lot of buzz from scouts I'm talking to about who won, who lost the draft. They bring up Baltimore. Is this another year where they got a really good first-round steal because he wasn't necessarily the top cornerback in the mock drafts but several scouts I talked to say they had him as the premier guy based on his cover skills ability. A little undersized but he overcomes that with toughness."

This isn't the first time NFL executives have praised the Ravens for Wiggins, the No. 30 overall choice.

"Nate Wiggins was the best cover corner in the draft," one of them told Mike Sando of The Athletic. "He falls a little because he did not compete as consistently as you'd like, but going into that Baltimore culture, they have to feel good. They are not a team you really question."

The B/R NFL Scouting Department liked Wiggins, ranking him at the draft's No. 5 cornerback and No. 34 player overall.

The 6'1", 182-pound Wiggins earned First-team All-ACC honors in 2022 and 2023. He finished last season with 29 tackles, six pass breakups and two interceptions.

But now he's in the pros and has already started on-field workouts with rookie minicamp underway.

He leads a draft class that includes, among others, Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten, Penn State outside linebacker Adisa Isaac, UNC wide receiver Devontez Walker and Iowa State cornerback T.J. Tampa.
