Bears' Jaylon Johnson 'Cleared the Air' with Caleb Williams After 'Hollywood' Remarks

Scott PolacekApr 30, 2024

It doesn't seem like there is any bad blood between Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson and new teammate Caleb Williams.

Johnson turned heads during a March appearance on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams when he said the quarterback "can't bring that Hollywood stuff into the building" when asked about the rookie joining the Bears.

However, he provided more context during a Tuesday appearance on 670 The Score (h/t Nick Shook of NFL.com).

"That conversation was taken completely the wrong way," Johnson said.

"People, to me, just wanted clickbait and didn't even take into consideration the whole context of the damn conversation. Because when we were talking, she had brought up, 'Oh, how do you feel about Caleb Williams if he comes and you guys draft him? He's like Hollywood, how do you think the Hollywood will come into the locker room?' She kept using the word 'Hollywood.' I never said, 'He's Hollywood, he's this and that.' I don't know the dude."

Johnson also said he spoke to Williams and "cleared the air" with the new franchise quarterback.

That is surely welcome news for the Bears considering they are expecting both players to be building blocks for years to come. Williams was the No. 1 pick and will now direct an offense that features DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet and more.

As for Johnson, the Bears agreed to a new four-year contract with the cornerback this offseason and will expect him to defend the opponent's top receiver during the length of that extension.

Chicago will have playoff expectations as soon as the 2024 campaign, and it now doesn't have to worry about two of its top players potentially having any issues with each other.
