Suns' Frank Vogel 'Very' Confident He'll Remain HC Amid Rumors About Future

Jack MurrayApr 28, 2024

The Phoenix Suns season is currently on life support, but head coach Frank Vogel is not worried about his job security.

Prior to the Suns' Game 4 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Vogel said that he was confident he would return regardless of the series result, adding that he has "the full support of (Suns governor) Mat Ishbia.

Vogel was hired as the team's head coach prior to the 2023-24 season and led the team to a 49-33 regular season record.

This feeling of confidence contradicts media reports that Vogel's job is "in peril." This was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who pointed to Ishbia's decision to fire Monty Williams following the franchise's second round loss to the Denver Nuggets in 2022-23 as a precedent.

While Phoenix's regular season record was enough to keep it out of the play-in tournament, it was only enough to earn it the No. 6 seed. That set up the matchup against the Timberwolves, who have managed to win all three games by sizable margins.

Phoenix also has significant star power, as Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal have all put up solid statistics in the series. However, a lack of performance from the depth has plagued the Suns, putting it in the difficult position.

No team has ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit in NBA history, but Phoenix will look to start a quest to do this in Game 4 on Sunday night.
