2012 NFL Mock Draft: Players Who Will Get Massive Boost at Combine

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

Ask any Philadelphia Eagles fan if they have any reservations about judging players based on the NFL Combine, and one player will immediately be uttered:

Mike Mamula.

Mamula shot up the draft boards after an impressive Combine in 1995, and the Eagles traded up to pick him seventh overall, passing up Warren Sapp.

Mamula was a bust. Sapp will be a Hall of Famer.

So the Combine is no sure indicator of talent, that's for sure. Nonetheless, here are a few players who should improve their draft stocks with impressive workouts.

LaMichael James, Oregon

I believe James will come out this year, and I believe he will be taken as a high-second-, and possibly even low-first-round pick. The man is electric, and he'll prove that at the Combine with an excellent 40 time.

I see James as Darren Sproles but with the ability to carry more of a load in the ground game. Frankly, I would love to have him on my team.

Dwight Jones, North Carolina

When talking wide receiver in this year's draft, the consensus top three is Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd.

Well, you may want to familiarize yourself with North Carolina's Dwight Jones before the Combine. At 6'4" and 215 pounds, Jones is a beast. He's also a solid deep threat, always something teams look for. Don't sleep on Mr. Jones.

(Note: I couldn't find a better highlight film for Jones, so this one from last year will have to do.)

Vinny Curry, Marshall

Ideally a 3-4 outside linebacker, Marshall's Vinny Curry has a high motor and should impress with his speed at the Combine.

Added to 11 sacks and six forced fumbles, a strong showing at the Combine could see Curry jump to a low-first-round or second-round pick.

Here is the rest of my current mock:

* The Indianapolis Colts will trade the top overall pick to the Cleveland Browns for the Browns' fourth and 26th picks in the first round along with their second- and fourth-round pick this year and first and second-round picks next year.

** The Redskins, worried the Colts might take Robert Griffin III at No. 4, trade the sixth pick in the first round along with their third-round pick this year and second next year for St. Louis' second overall pick.

*** From Oakland in the Carson Palmer trade.
