NFL Draft 2012: Inside Scoop on the 3 Best Prospects You've Never Heard of

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

While all the attention is focused on Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and tons of other high-profile players, it's time to shed light on the best prospects you probably aren't aware of.

Remember, Tom Brady was a sixth-round selection. His buddy, Wes Welker, was drafted out of Texas Tech. Miles Austin went undrafted out of Monmouth.

You know that Antonio Gates guy? He was a total unknown in 2003, going undrafted out of Kent State.

Ryan Lindley, QB, San Diego State

Standing 6'4'' and weighing 230 pounds, Lindley passes the initial eye test in terms of being an NFL quarterback. He was the epitome of a gunslinger at San Diego State because of his willingness to fire the ball into tight windows.

Lindley definitely doesn't lack confidence. He's got a NFL-ready arm and can make all throws. However, after throwing a laser 50 yards down the field between a corner and safety, he had the tendency to make three or four poor, inaccurate tosses in a row.

The senior signal-caller completed only 53 percent of his passes in 2011, but he did have 23 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

With proper coaching and some time to adjust to the faster game, the raw Lindley could become a solid starter at the next level.

Keep an eye on him.

Vinny Curry, OLB, Marshall

While the "premier" pass-rushers can be found in the SEC, ACC and Pac-12, don't forget about this Conference USA sack specialist.

What Curry did in 2011 was not easy; he followed up a breakout junior season with an equally as impressive senior campaign.

After 12 sacks in 2010, offensive lines game-planned against the terrorizing edge rusher, but he still managed 11 sacks and six forced fumbles this season.

At 6'5'' and 242 pounds, the senior would fit ideally as a 3-4 outside linebacker and could even rush the passer from the 4-3 alignment as a pro.

His speed, nonstop motor and vast array of moves could make him a first-round selection.

Jordan White, WR, Western Michigan

White most likely won't be selected until the mid-to-late rounds because of an extremely top-heavy yet deep receiver class.

That doesn't mean he's not an interesting prospect.

He has respectable size at 6'0'' and 215 pounds and was the most productive receiver in college football this season.

Ready for these numbers?

White caught 140 passes for 1,911 yards with 17 touchdowns. In 2010, he reeled in 94 passes for 1,378 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Yikes.

Although the MAC isn't a power, BCS conference, they've sent a number of guys to the NFL that have become stars (Ben Roethlisberger, James Harrison, Jason Taylor, the aforementioned Gates).

Not surprisingly, the senior wideout runs great routes but is deceptively fast down the field.
