No team put its fans through more of a roller-coaster ride in the 2023 season than the Philadelphia Eagles.

After reaching the Super Bowl in the 2022 season and falling just short against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles started the 2023 campaign with a 10-1 record before collapsing and suffering a wild-card round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But now it's a new year, and the Eagles have high hopes. Below, we'll break down the opponents they'll be facing in the 2024 campaign.

Analysis

This was an offseason of change in Philadelphia.

Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, two pillars of the organization, retired. Haason Reddick was traded. Kellen Moore was signed to serve as the offensive coordinator and Vic Fangio brought aboard to run the defense.

But the Eagles also plugged some major holes on the roster. Saquon Barkley was the splashiest addition at running back. The team addressed major needs at safety (C.J. Gardner-Johnson), defensive end (Bryce Huff) and linebacker (Devin White, Oren Burks, Zack Baun), among other positions. Draft picks like cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean will be expected to play a role next season.

The Eagles' reworked roster will face a tough schedule, with eight games against playoff teams from a season ago and a number of matchups against teams that sniffed around the postseason picture (Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals). The entire AFC North is loaded, and road matchups with the Baltimore Ravens and Bengals will be major tests.

Non-divisional matchups against the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Bucs won't be walks in the park either.

The Eagles faced a brutal schedule in 2023. This year's version may not be quite as stacked, but it definitely poses many challenges.

Pivotal Matchups

When it comes to the Eagles, this section is always the same—the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys.

The two teams have won nine of the past 11 NFC East titles (four for the Eagles, five for the Cowboys). Both teams have rosters, at least on paper, that look capable of competing with the NFL's best.

The Eagles can boast a Super Bowl title in the 2017 season and a berth in the Super Bowl in both the 2004 and 2022 seasons. The Cowboys haven't gotten past the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs since 1995.

Either way, it's very likely the division will yet again be decided between these two teams.

Granted, NFC East games in general are always tight affairs. This year, however, appears likely to be a transition period for both the New York Giants and Washington Commanders.

The former has major questions at quarterback and a distinct lack of experienced playmakers on offense. The latter will be transitioning to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and a new head coach in Dan Quinn as the franchise continues its rehabilitation under the ownership of Josh Harris.

The Eagles will be favored in all four games against those two opponents, but things have a way of getting dramatic in the NFC East. If the team's Super Bowl aspirations are to be met, however, the Birds will need to handle its divisional business first.
