Daniel Jeremiah 2024 NFL Draft Big Board: J.J. McCarthy, Worthy Rise After Pro Days

Scott PolacekApr 3, 2024

J.J. McCarthy and Xavier Worthy are moving up.

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah released the latest version of his big board of the top 50 prospects for the 2024 NFL draft on Wednesday, and the Michigan quarterback and Texas wide receiver each made jumps after their respective pro days.

McCarthy moved up one spot to No. 20, while Worthy moved up a head-turning six spots to No. 35.

McCarthy is one of the most intriguing prospects in this draft, as he wasn't asked to do as much as other quarterbacks in college but still found a way to lead the Wolverines to the national championship.

Jeremiah pointed to Alex Smith as a player comparison and highlighted McCarthy's efficiency as a passer and explosiveness as a runner.

Perhaps a team will like the Michigan product enough to trade up and take him early in the draft. That could mean four quarterbacks in the top five or 10 picks, as USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels are also highly regarded prospects.

Jeremiah has Williams as his No. 1 overall player and ahead of Maye (No. 5) and Daniels (No. 6).

It wouldn't be a surprise if the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and New England Patriots all take signal-callers in the first three picks, so any team interested in McCarthy might want to start talking to the Arizona Cardinals regarding a potential trade for the No. 4 selection.

As for Worthy, he turned heads across the league when he set the NFL Scouting Combine record by running the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds.

That type of speed will allow him to make plays after the catch and take the top off the defense on deep balls in the NFL. Jeremiah noted his hands also improved with more experience at Texas and highlighted his overall crispness out of the break and ability to turn on an extra gear when he gets in space.

Still, this is a deep wide receiver class.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Worthy as the ninth-best wide receiver in the draft on its latest big board, which underscores how much talent will be available with prospects such as Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze and Brian Thomas Jr., among others.

But whichever team drafts Worthy will have a deep-ball threat from the moment he walks on the field.
