WWE's Cody Rhodes Confirms He Signed New Contract Ahead of WrestleMania 40
WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes confirmed in an interview with Justin Walker that he has signed a new multiyear contract with the promotion:
"I can tell you 40 is out of the question just because, not to give you scoop, it was widely reported, but I did sign a new contract with WWE," Rhodes said (h/t Lewis Lawes-Cole of WrestlePurists).
"It extends beyond my 40th birthday. The plan is still, when it's time to step out, to step out without it being a painful process. Solely because I saw my dad [Dusty Rhodes] as an old man wrestler and he loved it and enjoyed it, but as his son it was hard to see.
"My daughter is two going on three, there does have a be a time, just like he was with us, where I have to be home all the time and be there with her. It's not 40 anymore. I'll update the number. I hit the prime run late in the game. I often forget that I'm nearing 40."
Rhodes, who turns 39 on June 30, is set to wrestle in the two biggest matches of his career during WrestleMania XL.
On Night 1 (Saturday, April 6), Rhodes and Seth Rollins will take on The Rock and Roman Reigns in a tag team match. The next evening, Rhodes will challenge Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Re-signing Rhodes, one of the biggest names in the business right now, was an obvious move for WWE.
He'll stick around for at least a couple more years, but for now, all eyes will focus on Philadelphia next weekend when Rhodes, Reigns, Rollins and The Rock headline the proceedings.
