Predicting Next Swerves in WWE's Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Rock, Seth Rollins Saga

Erik BeastonMar 18, 2024

WWE is amid record business, sell-out shows and one of the hottest roads to WrestleMania in memory, and a large part of that can be attributed to the storyline pitting The Rock and Roman Reigns against Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes.

Those four Superstars have constructed a story that will result in two main event matches for WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia on April 6-7, as well as high-intensity verbal and physical confrontations.

As the march to The Showcase of the Immortals continues, find out the path things may take with these predictions for upcoming developments.

Dissension Between Rhodes and Rollins

1 of 3

To this point, Rhodes and Rollins have been a united front, determined to take down the greatest threat to this generation of pro wrestling in the form of The Rock and Reigns.

Still, it's important to remember the history The American Nightmare and The Visionary share as enemies, one that could well rear its head before The Show of Shows.

Rollins taking exception to Rhodes' obsession with finishing his story and winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship rather than focusing on beating Reigns and The Rock first would be one way to go.

Perhaps Drew McIntyre, a master manipulator, would be able to talk the two men into dissension by recalling Rollins' long history of betraying those closest to him for his own personal gain.

Personal gain such as, perhaps, ensuring his spot in the main event of WrestleMania by telling Rhodes what he wants to hear so he can weasel his way into a spot in the biggest tag team match in the event's history.

Either way, do not be surprised if Rhodes and Rollins flash the slightest hint of dissension within their otherwise united front.

A Warning from Family

The Rock may have acknowledged Reigns as The Tribal Chief, but make no mistake about it: Paul Heyman knows who is really in charge.

We saw it on the same episode of SmackDown in which The Great One soothed Reigns' ego by acknowledging him publicly. The Wise Man told a frustrated Tribal Chief they could not leave the ring because Rock still had to make his way to the ring.

In that moment, he reminded Reigns and his fragile ego that everyone was living on Rock's schedule. It was the first hint that Heyman may not believe in the undisputed WWE universal champion as the Head of the Table and a precursor for things to come.

Do not be surprised to see someone from the legendary Samoan dynasty pop up to warn Reigns of Heyman and his ever-changing allegiances; someone such as Rikishi or even the champion's own father, Sika Anoaʻi.

It could also be someone from outside of The Bloodline. Perhaps someone who knows Heyman and his deceitful nature well. Someone like CM Punk, who suffered his own betrayal at the hands of his advocate and friend in 2013.

It would be an interesting way to utilize Punk's star and for him to drive a wedge in the dominant faction ahead of WrestleMania.

Rock Further Leans into his Board of Director Status

3 of 3

The March 8 episode of SmackDown saw The Rock remind Rhodes and Rollins that he is their boss by way of his position on the TKO board of directors.

He told them, "I'm your boss," the first time that he really leaned into that role within the company in an on-screen capacity.

Look for that to continue in the weeks to come as we see the depths to which The Great One will go to preserve power for himself and his family

We have not had a heel authority figure on WWE television for some time, and the idea that Rock would use his influence at a level higher than even Triple H to stack the odds against the babyfaces and potentially ensure victory is an appealing one.

That it is something we have never seen out of The Rock before means it would be fresh and exciting, too. A lot more exciting than half-hearted concerts that pale in comparison to the original segment from 21 years earlier.
