NBA Rumors: Zach LaVine Trade Will Be Explored by Bulls During 2024 Offseason

Jack MurrayMar 12, 2024

As Zach LaVine begins his rehab from foot surgery in an attempt to get ready to go for the 2024-25 NBA season, the Chicago Bulls front office is reportedly willing to reignite trade talks this summer.

K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago reported that the Bulls "will look to trade LaVine again this offseason." That news comes after the franchise was unable to find a suitable trade last offseason or ahead of this year's trade deadline.

LaVine underwent season-ending surgery in February and expects to be ready for training camp as he is "ahead of schedule in his recovery," per Johnson.

The lack of a robust market for LaVine isn't reflective of his talents on the court. He has career averages of 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists and is a two-time All-Star. He was averaging 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 25 games this season before being shut down.

He is under contract through the 2025-26 season, with a player option for the 2026-27 season that clocks in at $49 million.

The Bulls are in a middle-of-the-road position within the Eastern Conference, sitting in ninth in the conference with a 31-34 record. LaVine's salary could be used to launch a soft reset of sorts and replenish the roster with a few new pieces.

While LaVine is open to a deal, Johnson reported that he hasn't requested one and he envisions a seamless transition back into the fold if he were to stay.

"It's not hard to fit back in, especially with the way I play the game and want to go out there and help," LaVine said, per Johnson. "You never want to be hurt, but it's not hard to see yourself back out there."
