Jacob Toppin, Knicks Agree to 10-Day Contract After 2024 NBA All-Star Break
The New York Knicks agreed to a 10-day contract with forward Jacob Toppin on Thursday.
Toppin, a participant in the 2024 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, previously appeared in five games for the Knicks this season. He's spent most of the year playing for the Westchester Knicks of the G League.
The younger brother of Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin, Jacob Toppin was undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft and signed with the Knicks on a two-way contract in October. He helped lead Westchester to a G League Showcase championship and made his NBA debut in December.
The Knicks are unlikely to make Toppin a regular fixture in their rotation, but he can be a practice body and short-minutes role player coming out of the break. New York exited the All-Star break with just 12 players on its roster, needing two to meet the league minimum of 14 players.
DaQuan Jeffries is also expected to sign a 10-day contract.
The Knicks can sign Toppin to two 10-day contracts before deciding whether to retain him for the rest of the season or send him back to the G League.
