Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow on Track to Start Seoul Series vs. Padres

Timothy RappFeb 21, 2024

The Los Angeles Dodgers' new pair of aces, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow, are a "safe bet" to start the team's season-opening series against the San Diego Padres in Seoul on March 20-21, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday.

"This is a unique ramp-up for everyone," he added regarding the Seoul Series. "It's two games that matter, but it's just two games. So the entirety of the season and making sure these guys are ready to take down starts—that's most important."

The Dodgers have had quite the offseason. The team signed Shohei Ohtani to a 10-year, highly deferred $700 million deal, the biggest splash of the winter.

That would have made them the offseason winners alone, but they weren't done there.

The Dodgers then landed Glasnow, Manuel Margot and $4 million from the Tampa Bay Rays for Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca and immediately signed Glasnow to a five-year, $136.5 million extension.

The 30-year-old went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 162 strikeouts last season.

But again, the Dodgers weren't done.

The 25-year-old Yamamoto was arguably the top pitcher on the market after winning three straight MVP Awards in Japan. He commanded a 12-year, $325 million deal from the Dodgers, with reports that he turned down an even bigger deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Now, a Dodgers team that desperately needed to retool its starting rotation landed a strong pair of aces (and eventually a trio if Ohtani is able to return to pitching in 2025). Fans in South Korea can expect to see that new duo to start the 2024 season.
