Tiger Woods 'Resting and Feeling Better' After 2024 Genesis Invitational Withdrawal

Paul KasabianFeb 17, 2024

Tiger Woods confirmed on X that he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational due to illness on Friday but added that he is "resting and feeling better."

Woods was playing in his first official PGA Tour competition since last April when he was forced to withdraw from the Masters due to a re-aggravation of his plantar fasciitis.

He shot a one-over 72 on Thursday and was one over through six holes on Friday before leaving the tournament.

Woods underwent fusion surgery nearly two weeks after his Masters withdrawal. He didn't play competitive golf again until he teed off at the Hero World Challenge in December.

Woods was back Thursday at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, where he hosts the Genesis Invitational.

He had an eventful Thursday with five birdies and six bogeys, and he unfortunately dealt with back spasms on the final few holes. However, he was in a position to make the cut for the weekend with a good second round.

Unfortunately, Woods was under the weather and withdrew. On the bright side, though, he is doing better, and the fact that Woods didn't have to leave the tournament due to an injury recurrence is a hopeful sign that the 15-time major winner can be back out there soon enough.

The 48-year-old Woods is a part-time competitive golfer at this point, and he's referenced the option to "pick and choose" his tournaments.

With that in mind, one can surmise that the prestigious Players' Championship in mid-March could be his next choice if he's healthy enough to go.
