Mac McClung Teases 2 Never-Before-Seen Dunks Ahead of 2024 NBA Slam Dunk Contest
After injecting life into the Slam Dunk Contest with a dazzling performance last year, Mac McClung will attempt to top himself on Saturday night.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, McClung teased trying two dunks that have never been attempted in the Slam Dunk Contest before.
"I think I have three dunks that haven't been done in a contest before, but I think two of them haven't been done by anybody before," he said. "So I hope I can make them—if I make them, I'll be happy and I do them right."
TMZ noted McClung said he's been working on six different dunks, but has been working to figure out which ones he will attempt in the contest.
McClung set an incredibly high bar for himself in the 2023 Dunk Contest. He came within 0.2 points of having perfect scores in both rounds when Lisa Leslie, who was on the judging panel, gave his second dunk in the first round a 49.
The 25-year-old signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of All-Star weekend last season. He did appear in two games for the Sixers during the regular season, but his claim to fame was his performance in the Dunk Contest.
McClung has spent this season playing for the Orlando Magic's G League affiliate. He received an invitation to defend his Dunk Contest title in December.
The other contestants who will attempt to take McClung's spot on the throne are Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Miami, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics and Jacob Toppin of the New York Knicks.
The Slam Dunk Contest will take place on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
