Chiefs' Travis Kelce: I Stopped 'Playing Like a Jabroni' After 1st Half of Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce had a straightforward explanation for why his performance improved in the second half of Sunday's 25-22 Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers.

"Stop playing like a jabroni, man," he said of the advice he used internally to spark the turnaround.

Kelce caught one pass for one yard through the first two quarters. To that point, his most meaningful contribution was bumping head coach Andy Reid on the sideline after Isiah Pacheco's fumble inside the 10-yard line.

The four-time All-Pro wound up as the game's leading receiver (nine catches for 93 yards). His 22-yard grab on 3rd-and-7 late in the fourth quarter helped give Harrison Butker a chip shot to tie the game.

Before the Super Bowl, some wondered whether Kelce might end his NFL career on a high in the event Kansas City prevailed. He turned 34 in October and said in the fall he hasn't fully disclosed the physical toll he has paid across an 11-year career.

But the veteran tight end said immediately after the game he's planning to come back in 2024 to help the Chiefs win a third straight title.

Should the team reach Super Bowl LIX, Kelce would be advised to avoid any jabroni-like tendencies for the full 60 minutes.
