Former WWE Star Maryse Says She Was Diagnosed with Pre-Cancerous Condition
Former WWE star and two-time Divas champion Maryse announced Saturday that she is set to undergo a hysterectomy after pre-cancerous tumors were found in her ovaries.
In an Instagram post, Maryse said that she had been dealing with "severe abdominal distention," as well as "lots of GI issues, including SIBO [small intestinal bacterial overgrowth], multiple rounds of antibiotics and extreme fatigue."
Maryse wrote that she met with multiple doctors, none of whom could identify the issues, and some of whom suggested she was perhaps overreacting to the symptoms.
Ultimately, Maryse said she met with Dr. Thais Aliabadi, who further investigated the issues and found the pre-cancerous tumors while checking for endometriosis.
Maryse wrote that if the pre-cancer had become cancer, the survival rate would have been less than one year.
In an effort to prevent future issues, Maryse noted that she will have her uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix and omentum removed in four weeks.
The 41-year-old from Montreal broke into WWE as part of the Diva Search competition in 2006 and remained with the company as an active competitor until 2011.
Maryse returned in 2016 in a managerial role alongside her husband, longtime WWE Superstar The Miz, and has made periodic appearances for the company ever since.
Miz and Maryse built a family together in recent years, as Maryse gave birth to daughters named Monroe and Madison in 2018 and 2019.
Regarding her upcoming procedure, Maryse wrote: "I'm remaining positive and determined to beat this thing. There is only one option and it's winning this battle! As a mom of two young daughters, I have to."
