Video: Lakers Legend Magic Johnson Calls Kobe Bryant Statue 'Best' He's Ever Seen
Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson believes Kobe Bryant's new statue at Crypto.com Arena is the best one he's seen.
That statue, which commemorates Bryant's 81-point game and features his five championship trophies and a list of his accomplishments, was unveiled Thursday.
"It's the best statue I've seen," Johnson said. "I love the five trophies, but then I love the stone below him, all the accomplishments. I think that was special."
Johnson, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Chick Hearn, Shaquille O'Neal and now Bryant, have statues outside of Crypto.com Arena.
Bryant's widow, Vanessa, also announced plans for two more Kobe statues outside the arena.
During his 20-year career with the Lakers, Bryant brought home five championships—a three-peat from 2000 to 2002 and back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. Bryant is the Lakers' all-time leading scorer with 33,643 points notched in Los Angeles, and he holds plenty of other accolades from a storied career.
Bryant's impact on not only the Lakers franchise but the entire basketball world will be remembered as long as the NBA exists, and now his statue is enshrined outside the arena he called home to commemorate that impact.
