Michael Dyer Rumors: Latest on Auburn RB's Potential Transfer

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Apparently, winning a national title doesn’t form any special bond between a star and his team.

One season, Auburn halfback Michael Dyer is rushing for 163 yards in the BCS Championship, and the next, he’s potentially transferring to Arkansas State. The once 5-star recruit may just leave the Tigers to reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn.

According to the National Football Authority, he’s already made such a decision. Nate Kuester and Lisa Turner report that Dyer is in the process of filing the paperwork needed to transfer to Arkansas State. That rumor didn’t fly in the air too long without being shot at, as Matthew Harris of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette said on Twitter…

And when one reporter breaks news and another refutes it, that’s when a fight breaks out. Or in today’s world: a Twitter war. Kuester then tweeted back saying…

As you can probably imagine, the conversation didn’t end there. Harris then responded with a quote directly from his source. Ah, the unnamed source strikes again.

According to Al.com, Auburn suspended Dyer on Dec. 11 for violating team rules. They also forbid him to play in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Another report from Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News also says that not a single Dyer run was shown on the team’s season highlights shown at the Georgia Dome, and his picture and bio were nowhere to be found on Auburn’s bowl media guide.

The Dyer drama really began to ignite when Arkansas State defensive back Artez Brown said on Facebook (via Lost Letterman):

"

This status goes to my fellow Arkansas State guy Michael Dyer .. #WelcomeToThePack! #Winning!”  Punter Ryan Wilbourn also tweeted a shout-out to the potential transfer saying: “Michael Dyer to ASU. Welcome to pack bro!!

"

And this is what social media has done to the world.

But in all seriousness, Dyer’s decision to return or transfer from Auburn will rock the college football world one way or another. The fact that he’s been sent to the Tigers' doghouse will also be put under a microscope by NFL scouts when the time comes for him to take his talents to the next level.
