WWE's R-Truth Says He Almost Had Leg Amputated After Injury, Bacterial Infection
Longtime WWE Superstar R-Truth divulged this week that before healing and returning to action in November, he faced the possibility of leg amputation due to a bacterial infection.
During an appearance Friday on The Ringer Wrestling Show (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Truth discussed how he went from having surgery to pair a torn quad suffered in a match against Grayson Waller on NXT TV in November 2022 to battling a dangerous infection:
"I had a hole in my knee. I had five different bacteria that caused the infection along with MRSA, staff, and their cousins and kinfolks. It started off as a routine quad tear. I tore my bottom quad. They went in and I guess it could have happened during surgery. I went to get the stitches out and we found out that the bacteria, the infection, was eating from the inside out so that's where the hole came from. The doctor said, 'We gotta get this under control. If we can't get this under control, I'm gonna have to think of options.' He was straight shooting with me. He said, 'You're in the woods big time. We have to get this under control.' It would not heal."

Truth noted that his body wasn't agreeing with his doctor's attempts to stem the infection, which led to him getting a third surgery.
Had that not worked, Truth revealed that getting his leg amputated was an option that was on the table:
"It was a good four months or five months of just trying to kill the infection, slow it down, stop it, and I'm going mentally crazy because there was a chance, he said, the other option was amputation. You know what I'm saying? So to go from doing the 24/7 stuff, running around, doing things with my kids, to NXT, me and Grayson Waller tearing it down and doing things to stopping and then getting told this? It was a big reality check man. It was a pump the brakes moment."
Luckily for Truth, he was able to beat the infection, and the 52-year-old veteran is now back doing what he loves as one of the most entertaining performers in all of WWE.
Truth, who was with WWE from 1999 to 2001 and has been back with the company since 2008, is currently part of one of the most significant storylines in WWE.
Over the past several weeks, Truth has been trying to work his way into The Judgment Day. While the stable has largely resisted, Truth has continued to interact with them and has lent a helping hand.
Truth has brought comedic relief to an otherwise serious storyline, and the WWE Universe has fully embraced it, just like they always have during Truth's career.
On top of his segments outside the ring, Truth appears to be in as good of shape as ever and is putting on quality matches despite his age, which suggests he has plenty left in the tank now that his injury issues are in the rear-view mirror.
