NFLN: Ravens TE Mark Andrews Out vs. Texans amid Injury; AFC Championship Is 'Goal'

Julia StumbaughJan 18, 2024

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews won't play in Saturday's divisional-round matchup against the Houston Texans but has a chance to return for the AFC Championship Game should Baltimore advance, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh discussed Andrews' recovery on Thursday:

Andrews last played on Nov. 16, when he suffered a regular-season-ending ankle injury on a tackle by Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.

Harbaugh originally said in November there was "an outside chance" of Andrews returning this season.

Andrews was designated last week for return from IR and was a full participant in practice Wednesday for the first time since his injury.

The three-time Pro Bowl tight end, who has been using a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at home to speed up his recovery, said Wednesday that his potential return this weekend will be based on "how I feel at the end of the day."

"Just knowing how good this team is, how good our players are, how good our tight ends are, if I feel like I'm going to be helpful to the team, I'll go," Andrews told reporters. "If I feel like I'm close but not there, I'll let these guys go and hopefully get that next weekend."

Andrews had hauled in 45 passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games before his injury.

Although rookie Zay Flowers stepped up to help the Ravens finish out the regular season 5-1 without Andrews, the return of quarterback Lamar Jackson's favorite target would provide a huge boost for the Ravens as the team looks to make it past the divisional round for the first time since their 2012 Super Bowl victory.
