Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors: Latest on Seth Rollins, Andrade, and More

Erik BeastonJan 18, 2024

Seth Rollins reportedly suffered a knee injury during his World Heavyweight Championship defense against Jinder Mahal on Monday's WWE Raw, the extent of which has yet to be revealed.

The latest update on The Visionary headlines a collection of insider rumors that also features reports on Andrade El Idolo and former NWA women's champion Kamille, who is a free agent.

Dive deeper into each topic and find out what Rollins' status is with the latest from the industry's top insiders.

Seth Rollins Injury Update

1 of 3

Seth Rollins noticeably nursed a left knee injury throughout his World Heavyweight Championship defense against Jinder Mahal on Monday night, and he appeared to be genuinely concerned as Raw went off the air.

Wade Keller of PWTorch initially reported that The Visionary had suffered a legitimate injury.

"Multiple PWTorch sources backstage at Raw say that he was helped in the back and eventually put weight on it," he wrote. "He is walking on his own, but with a definite limp."

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline provided an update Wednesday, stating, "I just know he's getting an MRI. Then we'll find out. Basically, I was told that it could be something minor, it could be something worse. We won't know until the MRI result comes back."

That an MRI is scheduled suggests there is at least enough concern that WWE feels the need to do its due diligence rather than letting Rollins work through it and potentially suffer further damage.

The 37-year-old previously suffered a torn MCL, ACL and meniscus in his right knee in 2015.

Losing Rollins at this point in the year, with the Royal Rumble days away and the road to WrestleMania 40 underway from there, would mean considerable creative shuffling for WWE given what appeared to be an all-but-confirmed showdown with CM Punk in one of the marquee matches at The Show of Shows on April 6-7.

If the injury is not severe, Rollins can remain a fixture on television and set up his 'Mania program without the incredible workload he has had as champion to this point in his reign.

Either way, the status of one of the company's top stars and his spot on the most prestigious card of the year hinges on the MRI results.

Report on Andrade's Departure from AEW

2 of 3

Andrade El Idolo has finished up with All Elite Wrestling, and Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp reported details about his departure from the company:

"AEW talent said that Andrade was often very open about his contract status, and that his deal would be up in or at the end of 2023. Numerous talent also said that he'd mentioned that he'd planned to stay with AEW, and was considering another but by the end of his run had told wrestlers he was headed back to WWE."

He added: "Tony Khan publicly left the door open for Andrade's return, but several that worked near Andrade said that it was a frustrating process, and that days before Worlds End, he let them know that he was finishing up with All Elite Wrestling."

Compared to his first run with WWE, Andrade was allowed the opportunity to showcase a more intense, aggressive style during his time with AEW that will hopefully come with him when he makes his return to the company he rose to prominence with.

The matches late in his run, particularly with Brody King and Bryan Danielson, were remarkably good and further highlighted his growth as an in-ring performer.

How that translates to WWE, where he will encounter familiar rivals—likely in higher-profile positions than his first main roster run—remains to be seen.

Andrade's wife, Charlotte Flair, reportedly pushed for his return to WWE.

Free-Agent Kamille Backstage at AEW Dynamite

3 of 3

Former NWA women's champion Kamille is one of the hottest free agents in professional wrestling, and Sapp reported she was backstage at AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night.

"Fightful Select has learned that top free agent Kamille is backstage at the North Charleston, South Carolina episode of AEW Dynamite," he wrote. "Fightful was told in recent weeks that WWE was expected to make an offer to her to join the NXT brand."

Kamille reigned over the NWA women's division for 813 days, during which time she defeated the likes of Angelina Love, Melina Perez and Taya Valkyrie to retain her title.

A power-based competitor, the 31-year-old brings intensity to every performance and has the raw tools to benefit any women's division.

Should Kamille choose to sign with AEW, she would arrive in an ever-changing women's division that just added Deonna Purrazzo and is expected to land crown-jewel free agent Mercedes Mone.

Should she sign with WWE, a run in NXT that gets her ready for TV and familiar with the company's style would likely precede a main roster run.

Where Kamille opts to continue her career remains to be seen, but anyone familiar with her work will understand why she might be fielding offers from the top two promotions in the industry.
