Yankees Updated Rotation After Marcus Stroman's 2-Year, $37M Contract

Andrew PetersJan 12, 2024

The New York Yankees have added a much-needed starting pitcher to the rotation, signing right-handed starting pitcher Marcus Stroman to a two-year, $37 million deal.

The Yankees have been looking to add depth to their rotation this offseason, and they managed to do that by adding Stroman, who made the National League team while playing for the Chicago Cubs last season. The 32-year old started in 25 games last season, posting a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA.

With the addition of Stroman, here's a look at New York's pitching rotation for the 2024 season.

Starters: Gerit Cole, Marcus Stroman, Carlos Rodón, Nestor Cortes, Clarke Schmidt, Yoendrys Gómez, Clayton Beeter, Luis Gil

Relievers: Scott Effross, Tommy Kahnle, Jonathan Loaisiga, Nick Ramirez, Ron Marinaccio, Victor Gonzalez, Cody Morris, Matt Krook, Yerry De Los Santos, Cody Poteet

Closer: Clay Holmes

The Yankees were pursuing starting pitcher free agent Blake Snell, but his asking price was too high for Yankees to land him and they pivoted to Stroman. He will join a rotation that includes the American League Cy Young in Gerit Cole, but doesn't include much promise beyond Cole.

In Carlos Rodón's first season with the Yankees, he posted a 3-8 record in 14 starts with a 6.85 ERA, which is the second worst of his career.

The Yankees were in need of another solid starting option, and they got that with Stroman. Perhaps he will be a step in the direction of getting the Yankees back to the World Series, where they haven't been since 2009.
