WWE Rumors on Drew McIntyre's Contract, Kamille's Future and Giulia Negotiations
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from WWE and AEW.
No New Contract for Drew McIntyre Yet
Drew McIntyre is one of the top names in wrestling set to be a free agent in 2024, and it does not appear as if he and WWE have reached a new agreement.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported there has been no word of a deal between the two sides despite McIntyre's contract expiring in 2024.
McIntyre most recently failed in his effort to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins during last week's Raw Day 1 broadcast. He's been taking consistent losses to Rollins on the house show circuit as well, losing over the weekend in Spokane, Washington
.The 38-year-old returned to WWE in 2017 after a successful run in TNA and on the independent circuit. If McIntyre does wind up exploring free agency, AEW would likely leap at the opportunity to land him. McIntyre wrestled for Evolve and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla during his run on the independent circuit, and both promotions have heavy AEW influence.
The overwhelming odds remain on McIntyre reaching a new deal with WWE, but it's noteworthy that they're playing it this close to the deadline.
Kamille Set to Sign With WWE
While McIntyre's future remains up in the air, one of the first major free agents of 2024 has reportedly landed.
Former NWA women's champion Kamille is reportedly set to join WWE, according to PWInsider. The 31-year-old, who became a free agent Jan. 1, is set to report to the NXT brand.
A former women's softball player, Kamille made her wrestling debut in 2017 and did not wait long to leave a mark. She signed with NWA in 2018 and was an instant-impact performer, holding the women's title for more than a calendar year. She also made appearances in AEW in 2021.
While Kamille might not be the free agent many wrestling fans were hoping WWE would sign—Sasha Banks comes top of mind—it would not be a surprise to see her make a splash upon her debut.
Giulia Unhappy With WWE Interest Leaking
WWE might have the inside track on bringing Giulia stateside, but leaks may have overplayed their hand.
Fightful Select reported the soon-to-be free agent "appeared to not be thrilled" with reports of WWE's interest.
Giulia is a 29-year-old breakout star in Japan and may be the top women's wrestler in the world yet to perform for a major pro wrestling company in the United States. Her current contract ends at the beginning of April, and there's expected to be a bidding war to bring her stateside.
There is more than enough time to repair any potential damage done, and WWE is probably a better fit for Giulia to introduce her to a wider audience. That said, if AEW wants to swoop in on the sly, this might be the time.
