Fantasy Football Big Board: Complete 2023 PPR Player Rankings for Week 18

Gary DavenportJan 3, 2024

In most fantasy football leagues, the season is over. A champion has been crowned. Hopefully, you fine folks did better in Week 17 than this analyst—after eight championships in 2022, I went 1-6 in Week 17 in 2023.

It was—unfortunate.

But for some fantasy managers, 17 weeks just isn't enough. They have to milk every bit of fantasy goodness possible from the season. The upside is an extra week of fantasy football before the long, dark, offseason. The downside is that teams who have clinched playoff spots can rest players—leaving prominent stars like Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey sidelined just fantasy as managers need them most.

It is—far from ideal.

With that said, if you just can't let go of the season just yet and have one more game to go, the Big Board is here to help you one last time—with position-by-position rankings for PPR leagues, some matchups to target and avoid and a list of the top 100 players overall.

Let's saddle up for one last ride.

Fantasy points allowed and scored data courtesy of My Fantasy League.

Quarterbacks

1 of 6
Jordan Love
Jordan Love

It doesn't take long for the perils of a Week 18 championship game to become evident.

In Week 17, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens was fantasy's highest-scoring quarterback. He threw for 316 yards and five scores against the Miami Dolphins and ranks third in points at the position for the season.

He's also all but certainly not playing this week, and if he does, it won't be the entire game. The Baltimore Ravens have the No. 1 seed in the AFC locked up. Ditto for Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Joe Flacco of the Cleveland Browns are also locked into seeds and are candidates to sit.

If you have Jackson and are facing a team quarterbacked by Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys or Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, then you may have problems.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Jordan Love, Green Bay (vs. CHI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600]

The Packers will get into the playoffs with a win, and Love looked excellent in last week's blowout victory over the Minnesota Vikings. This week he and the Packers host a Chicago Bears team that ranks 21st in the league against the pass.

Gardner Minshew, Indianapolis Colts (vs. HOU) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,900]

Minshew has flashed here and there this season—he has three 300-yard passing games and four games with multiple touchdown passes. The Texans have allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position this year.

BAD MATCHUPS

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,200]

Mayfield laid an egg last week against the New Orleans Saints; he's nursing a chest injury after taking a hard shot in that game; and now he and the Buccaneers face a Panthers team giving up the fewest fantasy points in the NFC to quarterbacks.

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (at SF) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,300]

On the surface, this looks like a bad matchup—the 49ers are 28th in fantasy points surrendered to quarterbacks. But both of these teams could sit a number of players—the Rams can rise no higher than the No. 6 seed in the NFC.

SLEEPER

Nick Mullens, Minnesota Vikings (at DET) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,100]

Mullens has been quite the roller coaster on the field, and if your league penalizes heavily for interceptions, it hurts his value. But Mullens has surpassed 300 passing yards and thrown multiple touchdowns in each of his last two starts.

WEEK 18 QUARTERBACK RANKINGS

1) Dak Prescott, DAL (at WAS)

2) Josh Allen, BUF (at MIA)

3) Jalen Hurts, PHI (at NYG)

Running Backs

2 of 6
Kenneth Walker III
Kenneth Walker III

Over the first 17 weeks of the 2023 fantasy season, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey wasn't just the highest-scoring player in PPR points at his position. He was the highest-scoring player overall—by a margin of over 20 points.

And then in Week 17, it finally happened. That thing that fantasy managers had feared all season. McCaffrey got hurt.

He still managed 91 total yards and just over 13 PPR points. But that was his worst fantasy game of the entire season. And with McCaffrey nursing a calf injury, there is zero chance he'll play in Week 18. In fact, the 49ers may well hold out Elijah Mitchell, too.

You know. Just in case.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,500]

By most estimations, Pollard's 2023 season has been a disappointment. But the Cowboys face the Commanders and their 25th-ranked run defense in Week 18, and this is a game that could win Dallas the NFC East and the No. 2 seed.

Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks (at AZ) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,500]

Last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers puts Seattle's postseason hopes on life support. But Walker has a good chance to finish the season strong—the Cardinals are dead last in run defense and lead the league in PPR points allowed to running backs.

BAD MATCHUPS

Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons (at NO) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600]

Robinson's talent level isn't in question, but Tyler Allgeier's long touchdown run was a microcosm of the frustration that has come with him this season. Now he closes the campaign taking on a Saints team that's 28th in PPR points surrendered to running backs.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams (at SF) [DraftKings DFS Value: $8,000]

Williams has been a revelation for fantasy managers this season, including a three-touchdown effort against the Giants in Week 17. But the 49ers are third in the league in run defense, and there's a real chance Williams' snaps will be limited in this one.

SLEEPER

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City Chiefs (at LAC) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,900]

Edwards-Helaire missed last week's game against the Bengals with an illness. But he should be good to go in a favorable fantasy matchup for a Chiefs team that will likely be resting Isiah Pacheco since they are locked into the AFC's No. 3 seed.

2. Alvin Kamara, NO (vs. ATL)

Wide Receivers

3 of 6
Davante Adams
Davante Adams

CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys has more than lived up to his draft slot for fantasy managers this season. Lamb is the No. 1 wide receiver in fantasy football after 17 weeks and now holds the single-season team records for receptions (122) and receiving yards (1,651).

Not only was Lamb fantastic all season, but he also saved one of his best games for championship week—his 13 catches for 227 yards and a score against the Detroit Lions was his second 40 PPR-point outing of the year.

But wait, it gets better!

Unlike many teams this week, the Cowboys are playing for the NFC East title. They may pull their starters if the game becomes a blowout, but by then Lamb will have already gotten his.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings (at DET) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,300]

The Vikings are clinging to their postseason hopes by a thread. The smart money says that Minnesota will start Nick Mullens under center, and the Lions are 25th in the league in pass defense after being shredded by the Cowboys a week ago.

Brandin Cooks, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,200]

Cooks was no slouch last week, hauling in five catches for 60 yards and a touchdown. This season, only the Philadelphia Eagles have surrendered more PPR fantasy points to the position than the Commanders.

BAD MATCHUPS

Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. DEN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $7,900]

Adams' fantasy managers who somehow survived his one catch for four yards in Week 16 were rewarded last week with a 13/126/2 line against the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos have allowed the eighth-fewest PPR points to wide receivers this season.

Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. CLE) [DraftKings DFS Value: $6,200]

Higgins pulled his hamstring last week in Kansas City, and while the Browns will likely sit some defensive starters, they also field the stingiest pass defense in the NFL.

SLEEPER

Darius Slayton, New York Giants (vs. PHI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,000]

Slayton is coming off a big game, catching four passes for 106 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. Now he finishes the season against a Philadelphia Eagles team surrendering the most PPR points to wide receivers in 2023.

Tight Ends

4 of 6
Darren Waller
Darren Waller

The king has been dethroned—by a rookie, no less.

Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs was a first-round pick in many fantasy drafts. Not just because he was expected to be the No. 1 fantasy tight end, but also because just like in 2022, he expected to finish first by a wide margin.

That did not happen. Not only did the overall downturn in the Chiefs offense mean that Kelce scored over 90 fewer PPR points than last year, but he wasn't the No. 1 tight end in PPR points. Thanks in part to a dud in Week 17 (three catches, 16 yards), Kelce was outscored for the year by Lions rookie Sam LaPorta.

There's just no way to sugarcoat it. The unthinkable happened.

Given what it cost to acquire him, Kelce was a bust.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons (at NO) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,000]

After catching one pass for five yards last week (I'm telling you, Arthur Smith does it on purpose), the idea of starting Pitts in a must-win game is—not especially appealing. But the Saints have been a decent matchup for tight ends this year, and both teams in this game are in desperation mode.

Darren Waller, New York Giants (vs. PHI) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,700]

Waller had a decent game last week against the Los Angeles Rams, catching five passes for 51 yards. The Giants close out the season against an Eagles pass defense that has struggled mightily this season, ranking 28th in the NFL.

BAD MATCHUPS

Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars (at TEN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $5,400]

Engram has been on fire of late, surpassing 100 receptions for the season last week against the Carolina Panthers. But it's worth pointing out that no team in the league has surrendered fewer fantasy points to tight ends this season than the Titans.

Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS) [DraftKings DFS Value: $4,900]

It has been a good year for rookie tight ends—Ferguson is one of two (along with LaPorta) to finish among the top 10 tight ends for the season. But while the Washington secondary has been bad in 2023, it is a bottom-five fantasy matchup for tight ends.

SLEEPER

Harrison Bryant, Cleveland Browns (at CIN) [DraftKings DFS Value: $2,500]

With the Browns locked into the No. 5 seed in the AFC, there's no reason to risk the health of players like Joe Flacco, Amari Cooper and David Njoku in this game. That should mean more snaps and targets for Bryant against a Bengals team allowing the third-most PPR points to tight ends this year.

Kickers and Defenses

Team defense is one of the more unpredictable positions in fantasy football. And 2023 was no exception in that regard.

Per the Average Draft Position data at Fantasy Pros, the Cleveland Browns were the 16th defense drafted on average this year. The Browns led the NFL in total defense much of the season and finished fifth in fantasy points.

The Miami Dolphins were drafted eighth on average, but thanks to 53 sacks for the season, Miami ranks third in fantasy points among defenses. The team that came off the board just before them (the Baltimore Ravens) led the league in sacks and led all defenses in fantasy points.

The Indianapolis Colts were a complete afterthought for fantasy drafters—29th in ADP, which means not drafted at all. Thanks to 49 sacks and a penchant for big plays, the Colts are 10th in fantasy points after 17 weeks.

It just goes to show how much we don't know at defense each season.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Brandon McManus, Jacksonville Jaguars (at TEN)

The plan for the Jacksonville Jaguars this week is simple: If the Jaguars win, they will be the champions of the AFC South. McManus should be busy against a Titans team that leads the NFL in fantasy points given up to kickers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at CAR) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,900]

The Buccaneers face a similar edict this week: Beat the lowly Panthers and they win the NFC South. Said lowly Panthers have been kind to opposing defenses—Carolina has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to defenses this season.

BAD MATCHUPS

Evan McPherson, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. CLE)

Given the injuries that have blasted the Bengals this year, it's hardly surprising that McPherson hasn't lived up to fantasy expectations. Only one team in the league has surrendered fewer fantasy points to kickers this season than the Browns.

Baltimore Ravens Defense (vs. PIT) [DraftKings DFS Value: $3,300]

Yes, the Ravens are fantasy football's highest-scoring defense. But the Steelers need this win, the game means absolutely nothing for the Ravens and it's entirely possible that several defensive starters for Baltimore will be taking the afternoon off.

SLEEPER

Los Angeles Rams Defense (at SF) [DraftKings DFS Value: $2,600]

At full strength, there isn't a team in the league that allows fewer fantasy points to defenses than the 49ers. But this isn't going to be a regular week for the 49ers, who have locked up the No. 1 seed in the NFC and will likely rest a number of starters on offense.

Top 100 Players Overall

6 of 6
Mike Evans
Mike Evans

Before we hit the final top 100 players overall for PPR leagues (a list that can help with "flex" lineup calls) in the 2023 season, a couple brief notes.

The first is the same as always—there are no quarterbacks included here. If your fantasy league has a "superflex" slot and you have a decent second signal-caller rostered, he's likely going to afford you an edge in your Week 18 title game.

The second note is simply this. Thank you. It's been my pleasure to write the Fantasy Football Big Board (and the B/R Fantasy Football's Game-by-Game Guide) in 2023. I hope it was of some assistance in helping you get this far into the season, even if you did so by doing the opposite of what I recommended.

Hey. The Costanza works sometimes.

The Big Board will be back this summer as draft season heats up again. But until then, happy hunting in this final game.
