Premier League Transfers: Top 10 January Rumours

Joe TanseyJun 2, 2018

It is that time of year again when the rumors begin to swirl and clubs that need help in certain spots gain players, while other clubs offload excess players.

The January transfer window is upon us.

It is only four days into the new year and a ton of big names have been rumored in and out of clubs.

Most of the time, the rumors involve Premier League clubs looking within the country and outside England for players. It is very rare for players for the 20 English clubs to move away from the top league in world football.

Here they are: 10 rumors involving Premier League clubs that could eventually lead to transfers—or will never happen.

Carlos Tevez

1 of 10

From: Manchester City

To: Inter Milan, AC Milan

Carlos Tevez, as everyone knows by now, is out of favor with City boss Roberto Mancini and is definitely leaving the club in January.

Both Milan clubs are battling over the services of the Argentine, but both have different offers on the table.

Inter Milan are in for buying the forward, while AC Milan are just interested in a loan for Tevez.

No matter which club takes him, it is certain that Tevez will leave Manchester after all the damage he has done.

Steven Pienaar

2 of 10

From: Tottenham

To: Sunderland

Last January, Steven Pienaar was part of a transfer from Everton to Tottenham, and now it looks like his time at White Hart Lane is done.

The South African has been out of the squad for most of his time at Spurs.

New Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is interested in bringing in the South African to the Stadium of Light.

The move makes sense for both clubs, as Spurs see Pienaar as a bench player now and Sunderland are looking for a fresh new face to add to their squad.

Chris Samba

3 of 10

From: Blackburn

To: Tottenham

It seems that with every transfer window in the past year or two, there have been rumors that Chris Samba will finally be leaving Blackburn for a bigger club.

A move may be in the cards, as Harry Redknapp is looking to bolster his defense.

Samba has been a top player at a lower-tier Premier League club for a while, and it is finally time for him to get a shot with a big club. This deal would also give Blackburn some extra cash to spend on players.

Daniele De Rossi

4 of 10

From: Roma

To: Manchester City

Daniele De Rossi is being rumored to be a target of Manchester City.

De Rossi's fellow Italian, Man City manager Roberto Mancini, has admired the midfielder's talents for a while, and with money coming from a potential Tevez deal, they could be united at the Etihad Stadium.

This is one transfer that will develop throughout the month; I'm not sure how De Rossi would do switching to the Premier League, but this is definitely one rumor to keep an eye on, especially if City can offload Tevez and one or two more players.

Darren Bent

5 of 10

From: Aston Villa

To: Liverpool

Just a year ago, Darren Bent made the switch to Aston Villa from Sunderland, and now he may be headed to Liverpool as a replacement for the suspended Luis Suarez.

This move does not make much sense if Liverpool are looking to get younger and rebuild, but if they are just looking for an experienced forward, then Bent is their man.

Hulk

6 of 10

From: Porto

To: Chelsea

Hulk is one of the best players in the game not playing in one of Europe's top four leagues—but that soon could change.

Chelsea are looking into a move for the Porto midfielder who played under current Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas at Porto during their amazing 2010-11 season when they won the Europa League, Portuguese League and Portuguese Cup.

This would be a good move for Chelsea, as they are looking to bring in young, fresh talent and Hulk is as good as you will get in that category.

Kaka

7 of 10

From: Real Madrid

To: Chelsea

Premier League fans may finally get to see the Brazilian Kaka play in the league.

Kaka has fallen out of favor with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, and Chelsea are one of the clubs rumored to be pursuing him.

This would be a big-money move for Chelsea, and they would be taking a risk on Kaka, as he has had an injury-ravaged Madrid career.

Chelsea will have to make a huge gamble if they want to sign Kaka.

Alan Dzagoev

8 of 10

From: CSKA Moscow

To: Manchester United

The "Russian Messi" is being linked to Manchester United.

Dzagoev's contract runs out at the end of the season. With Dzagoev's potential and a stage like the one at Euro 2012, it may be easier for Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him now before Dzagoev has a breakout performance in Poland and Ukraine.

It looks like Sir Alex will sign a winger in January, but whether Dzagoev is the man is something we will have to wait and see.

Nikica Jelavic

9 of 10

From: Rangers

To: Liverpool

As Liverpool begin to look for a replacement for Luis Suarez, attention has turned to Rangers forward Nikica Jelavic.

The Croatian may be moving to Anfield in the next month to replace the suspended Suarez.

Jelavic has been a consistent goal scorer for Rangers in his time there and would be a good signing. Plus, he will not be as expensive as other forwards out on the market.

Vincenzo Iaquinta

10 of 10

From: Juventus

To: Newcastle

This rumored deal really could happen as Newcastle look to find someone to fill the void that will be left by Demba Ba when he goes to play in the African Cup of Nations for Senegal.

Manager Alan Pardew already shot down an Andy Carroll loan rumor, and Iaquinta would join on loan from the Italian club until the end of the season.

This is an interesting move that has a chance to benefit Newcastle a lot. They would only take Iaquinta in on loan, as Juventus is willing to pay some of his salary, and he would provide depth while Ba is gone.
