Packers' Rooting Guide for 2024 NFL Draft Implications of Week 11
The Green Bay Packers have five teams and a few losses between themselves and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Green Bay owns the worst strength of schedule of the 3-6 teams in the league. That puts it at the No. 6 overall pick going into Week 11.
The Packers have a decent chance of winning on Sunday at home against the Los Angeles Chargers, who only have one more victory than the NFC North side.
However, we have reached the point in the NFL season where rooting for your team to lose may not be the worst thing.
The Packers need a loss to the Chargers and some help from elsewhere to leave Sunday with a projected top-five pick in the draft.
Bears over Lions
1 of 3
The Packers need the Chicago Bears to benefit from their mini bye and beat the Detroit Lions.
Chicago comes into Week 11 one spot ahead of the Packers in the projected draft order. Both teams have three victories, but the Bears have an additional loss at this point of the season.
A Bears win would move them below the Packers in the draft order as long as Green Bay falls against the Chargers.
Victories may be difficult to come by in general for the Bears in the next month, as they play three of their next four games on the road.
Chicago also faces the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns away from home. Its lone home contest in that stretch comes against the Lions in Week 14 off a bye.
The Bears' outlook is not favorable for the Packers' draft stock, but Sunday is a divisional game for the Bears and anything can happen in those contests.
Giants over Commanders
2 of 3
The same optimism about Chicago winning a divisional contest should be applied to the New York Giants' matchup with the Washington Commanders.
Rooting for a Giants victory is a far more difficult task than picking the Bears to a win game these days.
New York's offense looked like the worst unit in the league with Tommy DeVito under center, but maybe a full set of reps in practice with him under center will benefit the Giants.
That seems like wishful thinking for the Packers' draft stock, but there is a path to victory for the Giants if their defense plays well.
That would allow DeVito, Saquon Barkley and Co. to only be responsible for 10-17 points.
A Giants win seems unrealistic, but its what the Packers have to root for if they want to pick inside the top five.
Cardinals over Texans
3 of 3
An Arizona Cardinals win over the Houston Texans feels like the most realistic result the Packers can root for.
Arizona has a re-energized offense with Kyler Murray back under center, and that could help the NFC West side challenge C.J. Stroud and Co.
The Cardinals are the one team the Packers, and the rest of the three-win teams in the NFL, should count on winning at least two or three more games before the end of the season.
Murray is too good of a quarterback to lose every remaining contest on the schedule. The same definitely can't be said about DeVito, Mac Jones, Bryce Young and Tyson Bagent.
Green Bay will not jump every team in front of it in the draft order in one week, so it should start with leaping over one franchise and that should be Arizona provided the Packers lose to the Chargers.
