NFL Odds Week 11: Betting Tips after Friday's Injury Reports and Practice News

Kristopher KnoxNov 18, 2023

Week 11 kicked off on Thursday night with a pivotal game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens ended up running away with it, but the wrist injury that Joe Burrow suffered in the first half played a significant role.

Some other fantastic matchups await, though not every contest will carry such heavy playoff implications on both sides. Many of them will, however, have injury implications.

With all due respect to the Carolina Panthers, their Sunday game with the Dallas Cowboys probably isn't a playoff preview.

Of course, fans can always add a little excitement to uninteresting matchups and potential blowouts by tossing a little wagering into the mix. Here, we'll dive into the latest injury intel and practice reports to identify a few bets we love heading into the weekend.

Browns and Steelers over 33 Points

1 of 3
Browns QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
Browns QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson

Before Burrow's injury, the Cleveland Browns' loss of Deshaun Watson to a season-ending shoulder injury was the story of the week. With Watson out, the Browns will turn to rookie fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson Robinson.

Thompson-Robinson was a disaster in his first start this season, though he didn't know he was starting until just before kickoff. The rookie believes he'll be better equipped to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I know what to expect now," Thompson-Robinson said, per ESPN's Jake Trotter. "I'm not stepping out there for the first time."

Pittsburgh's defense can be a nightmare, even for seasoned quarterbacks, so we'd still expect some offensive struggles from Cleveland. We'd expect the same from Kenny Pickett and the Steelers on the road against a fantastic Browns defense.

However, this line is simply too low for two teams with so many quality skill players. The first meeting featured 48 total points, and a defensive score or two could put this one into that range.

Steelers safety Montravius Adams (ankle), Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring), and Browns safety Juan Thornhill (calf) have all been ruled out.

Commanders -8.5 Versus Giants

2 of 3
Commanders QB Sam Howell
Commanders QB Sam Howell

In most matchups, it would be hard to trust the 4-6 Washington Commanders by more than a touchdown. However, Washington is set to host the underwhelming and injury-hampered New York Giants this week.

Starting quarterback Daniel Jones is out for the season, and backup Tyrod Taylor is on injured reserve with a rib injury. This leaves New York with third-stringer Tommy DeVito, who has thrown for 251 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in his two starts.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced on Friday that New York will also be without cornerback Adoree' Jackson (concussion) and offensive tackle Evan Neal (ankle), per Darryl Slater of NJ Advanced Media.

While the Commanders haven't been all that consistent in 2023, they've played at a much higher level than the Giants. Quarterback Sam Howell leads the league in passing yards and should take advantage of a Giants defense ranked 30th in net yards per pass attempt allowed.

Divisional games are always tough to predict, but the Giants are banged-up and perhaps more interested in chasing a top draft pick than getting to 3-8.

Chargers and Packers over 44 Points

3 of 3
Chargers QB Jordan Love
Chargers QB Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers standout cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder) returned to practice on Thursday, which is a great development for the Packers' 11th-ranked defense. That defense will be tasked with slowing a potent Los Angeles Chargers offense.

While Green Bay can keep it interesting, it's hard to envision the Packers completely shutting down Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and Co. Last week, the Chargers racked up 38 points against a Detroit Lions defense that is pretty much on par with Green Bay's.

Alexander, Rashan Gary (shoulder) and Quay Walker (groin) are all questionable, and if any miss time, L.A. could have an easier time offensively. Allen is dealing with an AC joint sprain but has stated that he will play.

We like the over at its current line because of Los Angeles' lackluster pass defense. No team has allowed more passing yards per game this season.

While Packers quarterback Jordan Love has had his fair share of struggles this season, he seemed to form a real deep-ball connection with Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs last week. If he can hit a few chunk plays against L.A.—and he should—this could turn into a fun offensive battle.

Regardless of how fun this one ultimately ends up being, a Chargers defense allowing an average of just under 24 points per game make the over the enticing play.
