NFL Playoff Predictions: Teams with Best Odds to Dethrone Packers

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

If you haven't noticed, the Green Bay Packers are kind of good. They rolled through last year's playoffs en route to becoming Super Bowl champions, and they've continued that success this year with an amazing 15-1 record.

Yet, for some reason, they are seemingly talked about less and less every week.

Well, here's a pointer for every other team in the NFL: The Packers are still really, really good. You shouldn't sleep on them.

With that being said, here's a look at the three teams with the best chances at beating the Packers.

Note, I decided to go with two NFC teams and one AFC team. That's why the Ravens made the list over the New England Patriots. I would have the Pats fourth on here.

San Francisco 49ers

The Niners have one of the best defenses in the league. There's no question about that.

Their rush defense is easily the best in the NFL, but since the Packers don't possess a huge running threat, the Niners could drop more guys into coverage or put more into blitz packages.

I really like San Francisco's chances of slowing down Green Bay, but the Niners offense isn't quite there yet. Green Bay is susceptible to the big play, but quarterback Alex Smith doesn't necessarily have it in him to take advantage.

One thing is for sure, though. This would turn into a low-scoring battle and the Packers wouldn't enjoy that.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens possess the type of defense capable of slowing down Green Bay's prolific pass attack, but they also combine that with a very good offense.

Running back Ray Rice has been nearly unstoppable and there are plenty of talented weapons in the passing game, but it will all come down to Joe Flacco.

Flacco has been unable to really establish himself as a great player in the playoffs, and what's more, this matchup would take place in the Super Bowl. Who knows how the young quarterback would hold up in that situation?

New Orleans Saints

I have the first two teams challenging the Pack via defense, but the Saints would do so with Drew Brees and all of their talented weapons on offense.

The Saints came close against Green Bay in Week 1 during their 42-34 defeat, and there's no question a rematch would bring the same type of score.

The Saints are red-hot right now and right now would easily challenge Green Bay for a trip to the Super Bowl.
