Manchester City vs Liverpool: Citizens Prove They Rule the Premier League

Jeff ChaseJun 4, 2018

With their win over Liverpool today, Manchester City proved why they rule the Barclays Premier League.

After falling to Sunderland in their last game on January 1st, the Citizens bounced back in a huge way against Liverpool to avoid creating a three-way tie with Manchester United and Tottenham.

With the win, they move up to 48 points and are in control of the league. There is still much more time left in the season, but things are looking good.

Man City has been the most effective team this year, as they have been averaging 2.8 goals per match. If they keep things going in this direction, they should be able to stay atop their competition. Manchester United, who stands behind the Citizens in the standings, were unable to keep up with them when they lost 6-1 back on October 23rd.

If the Citizens are able to continue handling their toughest competition, there is no reason to believe that they can be topped at any point going forward.

Striker Sergio Aguero was once again effective, scoring for the 15th time this season. The Citizens also got goals from Gnegneri Toure Yaya and James Milner, while goalkeeper Joe Hart once again held their opposition to zero goals.

The Citizens are looking to continue to be the team to beat this season, so it will be interesting to see how opposing clubs will handle them.

They won't be back on the field until January 16th, when they take on Wigan at the DW Stadium. This matchup should be an easy one for the Citizens, as Wigan has been pretty bad all season long—only having 15 points on the year.

They should have an easy time handling the Athletic, but they will be have to be on the top of their game when they take on Tottenham on January 22nd.

The Hotspur are right there with Man City, but the Citizens are coming off of a 1-0 victory in their previous meeting.

A win over Tottenham will not only give them some cushion room in the standings, but it will also provide the team with a statement victory over one of their toughest upcoming opponents.
