Manchester United Transfer News: Wesley Sneijder Would Put Man U Over the Top

Mike ChiariJun 7, 2018

Despite some recent missteps, including a loss to Blackburn, Manchester United is currently tied atop the English Premier League with Manchester City. If the Red Devils want to be the clear team to beat, though, acquiring Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder is the perfect move.

According to Crunch Sports, Sneijder could be had for $25 million during the January transfer window. Man U was close to securing Sneijder during the summer, but monetary differences ultimately led the deal to dissolve.

With the Red Devils looking to make a big splash, though, it is hard to think of a better fit than Sneijder. He is one of the premier attacking midfielders in the world, and he could step in and start immediately for Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney and Chicharito have largely carried the scoring load for the Red Devils this season, and Sneijder would give them the secondary scoring they desperately need. On top of that, Sneijder is a good distributor who can press the issue and find Man U's scorers in space.

Manchester United has won the Premier League in four of the past five seasons, but there is no guarantee that it will do so again. Manchester City looks to be just as good while squads like Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal could probably beat the Red Devils on any given day.

If Man U stands pat or makes a nominal improvement, it can still come out on top in the EPL, but bringing in Sneijder would increase the chances of that happening by a lot. Paying Sneijder certainly doesn't come without risks as he is known as a bit of a prima donna, but it's a risk worth taking.

Few midfielders are as creative and offensively gifted as Sneijder, so he is most definitely worth the money if his head is in the right place. Even if Sneijder is a colossal failure, though, Manchester United clearly has the financial ability to make up for it.

The Red Devils are still favored to win the Premier League, but their grip on the top spot could be slipping. Rather than sit idly by and possibly let that happen, an impact move needs to be made. I think Sneijder can and ultimately will be that move.
