WWE Rumors: Update on a Possible WWE Return for RVD?
Let's take a break from Chris Jericho talk, shall we?
I have decided to cover a similar story with different results. I wrote about this a few weeks ago, and it seems there is now more to it.
According to this report, it seems as if Rob Van Dam may be thinking about a return to WWE. The story notes that he signed a two-year deal with TNA in March, 2010.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The source for this information is Power Slam Magazine, which states he would receive a "warm welcome in WWE." If he were to return, he would join Booker T, Kevin Nash and Mick Foley, who all joined TNA in recent years only to wind up back with WWE this past year.
Let me stress again: Nothing is confirmed. This is all strictly a rumor at this point!
My thoughts on the rumor?
Honestly, my thoughts on RVD have not changed one bit in the past 15 years. He was a big fish in a small pond in ECW. His status was elevated there by default. Being one of a few standout performers, of course he was going to make a "splash" in Philadelphia.
His run in WWE was exactly what I expected. He had good matches. He was a good face. He kept close to the mid-card while going up and down a few times.
Ultimately, his work never convinced me he was a permanent main event player in WWE. I liked him as a WWE talent, but I did not see him becoming a top-level star. Great performer—not amazing.
His ring work was very "spotty." Look at John Morrison for an example. Hey, how is he doing these days?
When he cuts a promo, I nearly laugh every time. His "relaxed" persona is well known, but it just does not draw in viewers. Show some fire. Some passion. Some intensity!
No, it is just "whatever dude" or "yeah man." Sorry—can't sell tickets that way.
In the end, his run in WWE was summed up perfectly with his WWE title reign. He finally gets a huge chance and blows it a few weeks later. Thanks for coming, Rob!
Even in 2011 (2012 now), his ring attire is the same. His promos are the same, and all of his usual moves are still hit in the same order. Yes, most guys keep their trademark look, but this is now 15 years later. Nothing has changed with him.
That being said, I would like to see him back in WWE. I would like to see a lot of guys in from TNA head for higher ground. It is just who is smart enough to make the move.
I have not been the biggest RVD fan, but I think he knows better. His time in TNA has been a bust, as everyone who jumps to DixieLand eventually realizes. If he wants some glory, money, fame and great matches before he retires, why not a short run with WWE once more?
I doubt a full-blown RVD return is possible for WWE. However, a return like Booker T would be fine in my eyes. Couple matches a year. Legends deal outside the ring. Something small, yet effective.
What do you folks think about the rumor? Is a return to WWE in store for RVD in a few months? Tell me what you think...
