2012 NFL Mock Draft: Predicting the Draft's 3 Most Dynamic Picks

John RozumJun 7, 2018

Perhaps one of the more exciting things about the NFL Draft are the dynamic athletes. Regardless of position, those who do work on offense or defense—and then on special teams—are fun to watch.

Some players are even used in multiple ways at their respective positions. That being said, here are three of the most dynamic picks to be aware of in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Melvin Ingram: DE/OLB, South Carolina

He's one of the few defensive ends who can drop into coverage and stick with a TE or RB man-to-man. Melvin Ingram may be known as a sack-master, with 19 in the past two seasons; however, he also recorded two interceptions in 2011 and scored three TDs.

One of those TDs was a 68-yard rush on a fake punt. How many defensive linemen can pull that off? Other than Melvin, none. Not to mention he's on South Carolina's hands team for onside kicks. The man simply knows how to find the football and actually returned five kickoffs for 90 yards his freshman season.

A solid pass-rusher with the dynamics of a hybrid cover linebacker, Melvin Ingram brings special teams, defense and a nose for making plays in both facets of the game to the NFL.

Brandon Boykin: CB, Georgia

On top of being one of the SEC's better corners—as he picked off nine passes in his career and forced two fumbles in 2011—Georgia's Brandon Boykin does work on special teams and offense for the Dawgs.

Serving as the team's primary return specialist, Boykin pulled double-duty in 2011, adding punt returns to his repertoire. On the year, he collected 180 yards on 32 returns and took one punt back for a TD.

On kickoffs, Boykin totaled 2,660 yards on 110 returns while scoring four TDs throughout his career. He'll make any NFL team with his defense and special teams skills alone. However, he also accounted for some solid offensive production in 2011.

Acting as a reserve WR, Boykin caught five passes for 71 yards and scored two TDs. He also ran the rock seven times for 103 yards and one TD. He gets it done in all three phases of the game when given the opportunity, no matter how limited or expanded his role may be.

T.Y. Hilton: WR, Florida International

Alas, we get to a guy most have not heard of since he plays for the Florida International Golden Panthers—T.Y. Hilton.

He's easily one of the most—if not the most—dynamic players in all of college football. However, because FIU plays in the Sun Belt conference, T.Y. is going vastly overlooked.

For all four years as a Golden Panther, Hilton served as the team's primary return man and one of its most reliable receiving targets. For his career, T.Y. compiled 3,531 receiving, 498 rushing and 3,469 total return yards.

Scoring 37 total TDs throughout his career in all phases, Hilton was FIU's sole threat to the opponent. Yet the Golden Panthers managed to make two straight bowl games (2010 and 2011).
