Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Failed Fight Will Cost Nelson Mandela's Kid Millions
We all want to watch a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquaio fight because it would be the biggest match in boxing since the days of Mike Tyson … but at least you don’t have $7.5 million on it.
Nelson Mandela’s daughter Zindziswa was attempting to organize the bout for her dad’s birthday and hired a Los Angeles boxing promoter named Duane Moody to organize the big event. Moody was told he would receive 15 percent commission for the fight that was projected to rake in around $100 million. She wanted the fight to take place somewhere in South Africa.
Once Moody started putting in the hours, Zindziswa slowly distanced herself as the potential bout looked to be just a pipe dream. It’s easy to vanish from LA when you live in South Africa.
But Moody didn’t want to be left out in the cold and decided to get a lawyer involved. It was a great idea, as a judge awarded him $7.5M for his troubles. Zindziswa seems to be ignoring the whole thing, at least that’s what Moody’s lawyer is saying to TMZ:
"We haven't heard anything from any representative for Ms. Mandela. It appears she feels hiding in South Africa means she can avoid her obligations in the U.S.
"
This is a huge mistake by Zindziswa and it appears she got duped. Everybody in the boxing world is trying to make this fight happen and she thinks this guy is the one that can make it happen? I don’t think so.
The intentions were good for Mandela, I suppose. Nelson has said in interviews that he’s been a big boxing fan since the age of 19 and lists Joe Lewis as one of his idols.
The problem is that you can’t be making promises like that to sleazy promoters that could care less about the Mandala family. It will be interesting to see how she decides to fight this.
Regardless, here is just another of a group of people that desperately want this fight to happen … and are being denied.
