NFL Power Rankings: Teams Poised to Bounce Back Next Year

Tim KeeneyJan 3, 2012

The 2011-12 NFL season may be over for 20 teams out there, but all that means is that those squads can start looking forward to next season.

Here's a quick look at three teams that are poised to turn around disappointing seasons next fall.

Buffalo Bills (6-10)

Before running back Fred Jackson got hurt, the Bills were 5-4 (not counting the actual game in which he got hurt).

After that, Buffalo went an anemic 1-5. It's tough to say that that drop-off was all because of Jackson, but he was having a Pro-Bowl type season and its clear how important he was.

Improving the defense during the draft will be key for the Bills, and if you combine that with the return of a healthy Jackson, they should improve their win total by two or three in a tough AFC East division.

If the Chargers could just somehow find some early-season focus, they'd be in great shape.

As it stands, though, they just appear incapable of doing that. San Diego started off the season 4-7, a run that included six straight losses.

Of course, they managed to bounce back and win four of their last five, but it wasn't enough, even though they were in the poor AFC West.

The Chargers have loads of talent, especially on offense, and there's no question they should be a playoff team almost every year. Head coach Norv Turner hasn't been fired yet, but the general consensus is that he's on the way out.

A coaching change might be the best thing this under-performing team could ask for.

Speaking of talented teams under-performing, the Philadelphia Eagles put together another mediocre season this year.

Talks of a "Dream Team" started a bit prematurely in the City of Brotherly Love this season, and many pundits figured it might take this team of stars a while to really gel together.

No one really thought "a while" was a whole season, but the Eagles never really figured things out until the end of the year, when they won four of their last five.

If Philly can fix that run defense and maybe lose a few disgruntled stars (ahem, DeSean Jackson), they will be Super Bowl contenders next season.

Easier said than done.
