NBA Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins' Agent Denying Trade Demand Only Hurts Star Forward

Eric BowmanJan 3, 2012

Sacramento Kings' young star, DeMarcus Cousins, and his agent are in a "he said, she said" battle with his team about trade demands, and it isn't doing the power forward any good.

If Cousins truly wants out, he needs to speak out publicly about his request. If he wants to say, it would be wise for him to set the record straight over this mess.

The sooner Cousins himself talks, the quicker something will actually happen. Of course, the Kings may not want to trade him, but if Cousins voices his opinion to the media, then a trade has a better chance of happening than just letting his agent talk.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Cousins' agent, John Greig, denied that his client is demanding a trade.

"First of all, he's never demanded a trade," Greig said. "I've never spoken to anyone in the organization about a trade."

In the report, it claims Kings' head coach Paul Westphal said Cousins has asked to be traded twice. Westphal sent Cousins home on Sunday prior to the Kings' 96-80 victory over the New Orleans Hornets

The Kings will travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies Tuesday night, and Westphal said it's up to Cousins if he will come or not.

"That will pretty much be up to (Cousins)," Westphal said. "He said he wanted to be traded. If he doesn't want to be here, we want guys that are going to be going the same direction."

Basketball president for the Kings, Geoff Petrie, was asked if he plans to trade his star forward, and replied by saying, "my intention is to meet with him (today)."

If Cousins is smart, he will share his true feelings. All of this nonsense is hurting him and the team.

Everything can be settled by Cousins opening his mouth and saying what it is he actually wants. Words from his agent are not helping.

You can't blame Cousins for wanting to leave, if indeed that is his true wish. After all, he's had issues since joining the team, and the team isn't winning very much.

With stars joining forces on different teams in order to win big, it wouldn't be a shock if Cousins wants to be a part of that.

If he doesn't actually want to be traded, which is hard to believe, then he is wasting time by not speaking up.

Yahoo! Sports' reporter Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted on Monday what he has heard about possible trades involving Cousins.

This comes as no surprise, simply because the Kings have been hoping to build a winning team around Cousins. They're taking the right steps, but they definitely need to add more strength.

Now is the time for Cousins to speak his mind and then something will come of this mess.
