Chris Jericho's Return: How Y2J's Return Is Related to Batista

John NizinskiJun 5, 2018

The mystery superstar behind the "It Begins" promo was finally revealed, and as many expected, it was Chris Jericho. Despite what reports said about Jericho, he still returned to WWE.

Jericho left the company in 2010 and did other ventures, including "Dancing With the Stars." He did not, however, stop expressing his feelings about WWE.

Jericho has called out current superstars like CM Punk for stealing his moves and gimmick. When rumors started that Jericho was returning, he continued to deny them. He dissed the company and claimed he would never wrestle for the WWE again.

When Brock Lesnar retired from UFC, Jericho tried starting things by saying Lesnar took a dive and was the returning superstar. He denied that he was the returning "It Begins" person right up until the minute he came out and revealed it was indeed him.

Jericho returning shows that all he was trying to do was try to make his return more of a surprise and stir up speculation. This also shows that you can't believe everything you hear.

Another former superstar who has been chatty about his feelings toward his former company is Batista. Batista left WWE in 2010 after arguably his best run with the company as a heel. He left because he said he didn't like the direction WWE was headed and would not return anytime soon.

Since then, he attempted to pursue a mixed martial arts career, but that fell through. Lately, it seems like all Batista has done is rip the WWE. He has expressed his negative feelings about the "PG WWE." He has also given his input about the current WWE superstars.

He has blamed John Cena for killing "edgy" wrestling, said the Miz is not someone you look at and think he can beat you up and most recently expressed his feelings about Daniel Bryan being the Heavyweight Champion.

Both Batista and Jericho left WWE in 2010 and said multiple times that they wouldn't return. Both did not hesitate to express their feelings about the current brand of the company.

But now that Jericho has returned, does that mean that Batista will follow? Could Batista talking negatively about the company all be part of the WWE's plan to have him return as a heel?

Because of Jericho's silence on Raw, it is uncertain whether he will return as a heel or a face. But going by the "pop" Jericho got from the crowd, it is possible that he could be a face.

Batista could return at the Royal Rumble and receive a huge "pop" from the crowd. There are some signs (increase in weapon usage and some harsher language) of the company moving away from the "PG era," and Batista's heavy criticism can give them a good angle for the transition.
