2012 NFL Draft: ASU's Vontaze Burfict Taking Talents, and Attitude, to NFL

Gabe ZaldivarJan 2, 2012

Star Arizona State Sun Devils linebacker Vontaze Burfict has decided that he has had just about enough of these amateurs. Burfict has decided to take his hard-hitting way to the NFL.

The junior standout broke the news on his Facebook page Monday evening. This was reported via reporter Craig Morgan's Twitter feed. The drooling of NFL fans for one of the meanest players in the nation should begin shortly.

'Tis the season for college football stars to take the next step in their careers. As the tweet from Morgan reports, the deadline for athletes to declare is looming.

Burfict was already likely to go pro, so this shouldn't change draft boards tremendously. What this does do is officially add one player whose ceiling is as high as they come.

Many have compared Burfict's passion and zeal on the field to Baltimore Ravens legend Ray Lewis. There are some mock drafts that even have Burfict getting selected late in the first round by none other than the Ravens.

Such a coup would be a tremendous opportunity for Burfict, who would no doubt get invaluable tutelage from one of the best to play the game.

Burfict is big and strong—two things that come in handy when you are breaking bones at linebacker. The one issue that seems to follow him is dumb penalties. The physical attributes are there to make him a star in the NFL, and now he has to temper that with a level-headed approach.

If Vontaze Burfict can find a balance, we could be seeing the initial stages of a future Pro Bowl linebacker.
